With a name like that, I'm sure he'll grow up to be a real winner.
A couple nurses grabbed the mother to try calming her. The doctor and other nurses simply rose to their feet, staring at the demon baby who was still pressed against the glass. A sinister smile had formed on the baby's toothless face and when his eyes passed over the doctor and nurses, they shuddered and looked away.
Only the Figure continued looking at the baby, their eyes locking briefly before the Figure let out a laugh. "Are you people serious? You're scared of a baby. I mean, sure, he's kind of a ugly little bastard... but a devil child?" The Figure couldn't help laughing more. "You people are way too paranoid!" Turning back to Sincentius, the Figure concluded with, "Alright, take me back! That was fun, but I fail to see how this has anything to do with me."
Sincentius responded by simply raising and pointing one of his bony fingers behind the Figure. Rolling his eyes, the Figure looked just in time to see a young, naive nurse pulling Eddie away from the window. A mere second later, she screamed and dropped the baby to grab her once pretty face, now to be forever scarred thanks to four deep slashes running diagonally across it. She fell to her knees, blood running between her fingers as the doctor and some of the braver nurses came to her aid.
Despite being dropped on the floor and then kicked aside by one of the nurses, Eddie didn't cry, didn't even let out one whimper. He simply watched on, still smiling as the doctor tried to pry the injured nurse's hands from her face so he could get a look at the extent of the damage.
Returning to Sincentius, the Figure shrugged and said, "Okay, so the kid's probably a little unbalanced. Is it really any surprise? The parents are far from sane. The mother's shrieking about him being a devil child and the father's trying to read my mind. CUCKOO!"
The duo slowly walked together down a cold but brightly lit hallway away from the chaos of the nursery. Flicking ashes from his cigarette onto the recently mopped hospital floor, Sincentius said, "But you do admit the boy isn't normal."
The Figure nodded, rolling his eyes again. "Yeah. Sure. But I still say there's more to his behavior than meets the eye."
Holding his cigarette in one hand, Sincentius placed his other hand on the Figure's back. "You're on the right track. Let's dive a little deeper down this rabbit hole..."
Before the Figure could protest and demand yet again to be returned to the mine, the hallway faded into blackness. Continuing to walk, they soon emerged from the blackness in a different place, a different time.
