Chapter 15, Schemes of the Covenant, so far, has proven to be a testament to how far anyone would want to go to survive. We enter this chapter seeing the devastation of the Creature Wars —really, a struggle for survival for all things. As the chapter unravels, we gain insight into what happened in the past between Darkspade and Charon #2. We learn that the Staff or Scepter of Mortis rests inside of an inner sanctum. Charon #2 and Darkspade fight their way to the artifact- fending off everyone, including Lord Mortismere. The child Cadmus appears before Darkspade, and Charon #2 is told to remain- she is bound- and vows to seek her revenge against Darkspade. Once Darkspade, now the re-zipped 'Spade Deathen' reenters the deep past to fight off Hra'Spyder, the transvestite, he invokes the powers of the Mortal Championship belt and challenges Hra'Spyder to a mortal match- temporary rending any advantage that Hra'Spyder had.
In the present, our heroes devise a plan to infiltrate CWE Headquarters to kill off the Promoter and to find out more about Angel of Death's true intentions- with the distraction fight with Uncle Howdy in place, Darkspade and Charon use the arc light and send Uncle Howdy into retreat- but that summoned Charon #2... She proposes a match at CM16 in which her title and the covenant are on the line —but if the heroes lose, then Darkspade will have to summon the Oracle. Darkspade steps in before anyone else and accepts the match!!!
Meanwhile, Kizmat, Mamud, and Obed Marsh use the distraction outside the CWE Headquarters to fight against Uncle Howdy and manage to impale Cadmus inside of the Promoter's office in the CWE Headquarters —but Cadmus is not real. Cadmus reveals himself to be Lusus.... and calls Kizmat his 'mommy.' Seer is found by Obed, and in a sick display, Seer nurtures Lusus back to help with his "nom noms" (do not ask what that is...), while Lusus continues to call Kizmat his mommy and wants him to join him as a family in the headquarters. This sickened Kizmat to a level even he could not deal with, and he was about to leave when Lusus challenged his 'mommy' at CM16... Kizmat readily accepts, knowing he will have a chance to destroy this monstrosity.
In the background of all this, the Angel of Death has been carefully and calculatingly observing her pawns as they play out her grand chess game... and in one scene, she visits the slumbering Cadmus, only to be disturbed by the ghastly apparition of the child Cadmus.
