During a break, I had time to sit and reflect, and the world is changing dramatically with the rise of AI.
I know friends who work in San Francisco who see the money poured into AI development as a money pit. These startups are likely going to fizzle out, and it's difficult to say whether AI will actually have meaningful, positive, life-changing value.
For me, it wasn't too difficult to see the trends because, even though I am a public school teacher now, I never disconnected myself from the tech world or the decades of work in graphic design and web programming. When I reopened the e-Fed in 2023... I had to grit my teeth and realize that the likelihood of ever getting anybody to post here is low. Yep. I knew it- so why did I do it?
Well, I've posted a ton about this so I won't elaborate, but to sustain this project, I had to change my approach and mindset. Yes, I am frustrated- it rear its ugly head at times because when I view other e-Feds, even new ones and start ups they for some magical reason get at least some bites and honestly the vast majority of them look like crap LOL! but I think they get peeps because they align to what is accepted and known- the same ol' damn formula which I personally do not care for.
Anyway- going back on track- and why all of that is the foundation for what is on my mind: about two years ago I saw AI's increase and advantages to this e-Fed, and so I dived into its help with visual content and explored AI-generated posting for non-player characters because, as insane a player I am with producing stories and whatnot, I have my limits because I am human and I cannot spend the time to populate the board for what would be an actual roster- although I do a pretty crazy asf job of it as is...
Then- AI moved into AI-generated movies, which has transformed the vision for the e-Fed- all of a sudden, I have high-quality content in both visuals and simulated player postings, such as match writing. And now, with WWE 2k2* I do not have to concern myself with spending time posting for matches for NPCs.
And now- we apparently are headed to using AI agent bots- but my problem with that approach- although the small amount of experimentation has shown it's at least plausible to have an artificial roster- is that that costs real-world money.
When I had a bot come here from another source to submit their new character info, at the time I did not see them as a bot- I will be perfectly honest here- I was terrified that I would then have to explain to this "person" that we are driving a person-less ship. I would have to explain we are laid back, and although deep down I think I could add more events during a year, the thought of having to manage a roster again makes me apprehensive. And I know from experience that when you get peeps who actually sign up, they have expectations, like a community already established. Once they realize that there isn't any, and, *GASP*, they might have to have patience and understanding and grit to stick to this project with me and not have anyone else to play this with- guess what? YEP, they flee.
It's a catch-22- you are damned either way. But again, when you dig deep into yourself and think about the reasons why- there is a reason, and I create conditions to enjoy this project still. Again, here I go, but it will stay with me because it was a life lesson. Still, I will say it again- in this e-Fed's deep past, when you had too many stubborn cooks in the same space thinking that they deserve this or that and this- not one single one of them had the mind and skills to maintain this as I have. Even if they come back and destroy my e-Fed from a perspective of "we got a roster... ne ner hahaha"... why does that matter to me? Because, at the end of the day, what matters is that I enjoy this- and it's funny as hell that those folks fizzle away and erode from within. Gee, I was always right about them. Hmmm
So what does this all mean?
It means that the e-Fed, even though it will likely never have a roster, is still strong and producing a legacy out there. If I cannot have players come here, I'll use this project to launch myself out there, and as long as I have fun writing and producing content again, who cares if this e-Fed has a roster!
More on my perspective with AI and the state of the roster lack of lmao
